Small Dog (Border Terrier - West Highland White Terrier)
Our 'Handstrip' service includes handstripping the coat to the breed standard, ear clean, nail clip & file. This service also includes a bath & blow-dry a minimum of 10 days after your initial appointment.
Handstripping is a specialist technique used primarily on wire haired breeds to remove the dead topcoat that they are unable to naturally shed themselves. Handstripping helps maintain the weatherproof qualities of the coat, promote healthy skin & coat regrowth, preserve the natural colour & texture of the coat & help to regulate a dog's body temperature.
Silk coated breeds can also be handstripped.
Many factors can affect whether your dogs coat is suitable to be handstripped. Factors such as whether the dog has been spayed/neutered, age, if the coat has been clipped in the past or if the dog has any medical or behavioural issues. The groomer will assess your dog's coat at arrival & if it it deemed your dogs coat is not suitable to be handstripped, other services will be offered.
